Habit 1: Be Proactive
Take responsibility for your life and actions, and don't let external factors control you.
It emphasises that individuals have the power to choose their responses to external stimuli and events, and to be proactive. Proactive people take initiative and are not controlled by circumstances, conditions, or other people's behaviour. Proactive people are self-aware and able to recognize their own circle of influence, which they focus on, instead of wasting time and energy worrying about things they cannot control.

Habit 2: Begin with the end in mind
Have a clear vision of what you want to achieve in the long term, and work towards that goal.
It means to start each task or project with a clear understanding of your desired outcome, and to make decisions based on what you ultimately want to achieve. It means creating a personal mission statement that outlines your values, priorities, and goals. By doing this, you will have a clear vision of where you want to go, which will help you make effective decisions and stay motivated. This habit encourages individuals to set long-term goals and work towards them, which ultimately leads to a more fulfilling and purposeful life.
Habit 3: Put first things first
Prioritise the most important things in your life and focus your time and energy on them.
It is about prioritising and organising time around the most important things in life. It's about defining and prioritising one's roles and goals, and learning to say "no" to less important things. This habit emphasises the importance of focusing on the important but not urgent tasks, rather than the urgent but less important ones. Habit 4: Think win-win
Interact with others with a mindset of mutual benefit and cooperation.

Habit 5: Seek first to understand, than to be understood

This habit is based on the principle that effective communication requires empathic listening, meaning understanding others' perspectives and feelings without judgement. This habit encourages individuals to put aside their own biases and assumptions and actively listen to others with an open mind. By doing so, individuals can build better relationships, resolve conflicts more effectively, and achieve mutually beneficial outcomes.
Habit 6: Synergize
Work with others to achieve goals that are greater than what can be done alone.
Create a harmonious, cooperative atmosphere where the whole is greater than the sum of its parts. It involves valuing differences, finding new and better ways of doing things, and embracing teamwork.
Synergy is the ultimate goal of all previous habits, and it requires us to constantly look for ways to cooperate with others to achieve shared goals. This means being open-minded, listening actively, and being willing to compromise and work together to find the best solution.
Synergy is not just about compromise or consensus, but it's about finding a third alternative that is better than what either person initially proposed. When synergy is present, the energy and creativity of a group can be exponentially greater than the sum of its individual members. It leads to new ideas, increased productivity, and greater satisfaction in work and relationships.
Habit 7: Sharpen the saw
Continuously improve yourself by focusing on physical, emotional, mental, and spiritual self-care.
The habit emphasises the importance of self-renewal and continuous improvement in all areas of your life - physical, mental, emotional, and spiritual.
Covey uses the metaphor of a saw to illustrate the need to regularly sharpen one's personal tools and resources to remain effective and efficient. He promotes taking time for activities such as exercise, meditation, learning, and socialising to recharge and refresh yourself.
The habit encourages individuals to prioritise self-care and personal growth as a means of enhancing their overall effectiveness and achieving their goals.
